Vintage Swiss Mechanical Wristwatch – “Ancre 15 Rubis” – AS 1002 / 984 – c.1940s
Description:
A charming vintage Swiss mechanical wristwatch dating to approximately the 1940s. The dial is marked “Ancre 15 Rubis”, a period-correct designation indicating a lever escapement movement with 15 jewels. Inside, the watch is fitted with a Swiss A. Schild AS 1002 / 984 manual wind movement, a well-regarded and widely used calibre of the era.
The watch is presented on a new Crazy Horse leather strap and supplied in a Bowles Ltd watch gift box. It is currently in good working order and displays beautifully, with an attractive, evenly aged dial.
About the Dial Marking:
The wording “Ancre 15 Rubis” refers to the movement specification rather than a confirmed brand name. “Ancre” is the French term for a lever escapement, while “Rubis” denotes the jewel count. This type of dial marking is commonly seen on mid-century Swiss watches and was used descriptively rather than as a manufacturer signature.
