Description

This delightful sterling silver souvenir tea spoon presents the vibrant civic pride of Manchester in elegant miniature. Crafted by Sydney & Co. and assayed at Birmingham in 1945, the spoon features a finely detailed, part-enamelled crest incorporating the Manchester coat of arms in vivid blue and red. The shaft is decorated with an attractive spiral twist and terminates in an expressive, colourful shield teeming with local heraldic symbolism, making it a charming relic of mid-20th-century British silversmithing. The spoon is substantial for a collector’s piece, with a pleasing weight in hand.

A curved shaft gives the piece additional visual character. It is not possible to say whether this bend was original to its manufacture or a tasteful adjustment made later in its life, a common quirk in souvenir silver of this era.

This spoon will be a noteworthy addition for collectors of British silver, city memorabilia, or those with a particular affection for Manchester’s rich industrial and civic history.

Condition

Presented in very good vintage condition. Enamel to the Manchester crest remains vivid with only minor signs of age to the silver surface, including gentle surface marks, as appropriate for its age. There is a notable gentle curve to the shaft; it is unclear whether this was part of the original design or a deliberate later shaping, but it does not detract from its visual appeal or collectability. Please see photographs for precise condition detail.
