An elegant George III sterling silver snuffer tray, crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Hennell I and hallmarked for London, 1789.
Snuffer trays were designed to hold candle snuffers or wick trimmers and were a staple of late 18th-century domestic silver. This example is of elongated oval form with a reeded border and flared ends, typical of the period. The centre is engraved with a stag, adding both decorative appeal and heraldic interest.
Robert Hennell I (1741–1811) was one of the most prominent members of the distinguished Hennell family of silversmiths. His work is highly prized among collectors of Georgian silver.
