Description:
A beautiful and historically interesting antique silver pocket watch by the renowned London maker J.W. Benson, hallmarked for London 1887. This watch features Benson’s patented “The Ludgate Watch” movement and remains in good working order. The watch has a classic white enamel dial with Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial, housed in a substantial silver open-face case. Particularly interesting is the engraved presentation inscription inside, "presented to Sergt. J. Vince by the band of the 1st Battalion South Stafford Regiment as a mark of esteem upon his departure from the regiment". A highly collectible Victorian military-associated pocket watch from one of Britain’s finest makers.

J.W. Benson was one of the most respected English watchmakers and retailers of the Victorian period, holding Royal Warrants and supplying watches to British royalty and military officers. Founded in London in the mid-19th century, the company became known for producing high-quality English pocket watches and innovative designs such as “The Ludgate Watch”.
