Description

A handsome and highly collectable American pocket watch by the Hampden Watch Company, dating to 1892. This example houses a Hampden "Special Adjusted" movement with 17 jewels, a high-grade movement intended for accurate timekeeping and suitable for railroad service standards of the period.

The watch is cased in a beautifully engraved Fahys "Montauk" gold-filled case with screw front and rear covers. The ornate engraving remains particularly crisp and attractive, giving the watch excellent visual appeal. The movement is signed Hampden Watch Co., Canton, Ohio, and features a finely engraved balance cock and regulator assembly.

The watch winds, sets and runs well. The crystal is in excellent condition and the dial presents well, with only a small chip near the centre. An attractive and substantial American pocket watch from one of the most respected U.S. manufacturers of the late nineteenth century.
