Description:
An antique fusee pocket watch movement signed Wm Andrews & Co, Londonderry, offered for spares or repair. This is an attractive gilt fusee movement with engraved balance cock and traditional verge fusee construction typical of early to mid-19th century pocket watches.
The movement winds and the fusee chain appears intact, with the balance moving freely, however the movement does not currently run and the exact fault is unknown. The enamel dial is signed Wm Andrews & Co, Londonderry, and features Roman numerals with subsidiary seconds. There is visible damage and wear to the subsidiary seconds dial along with general age-related marks.
Signed Irish and provincial fusee movements such as this are increasingly sought after by collectors and restorers, particularly named examples from smaller retailers such as Londonderry.
Maker History:
William Andrews & Co of Londonderry were a provincial Irish retailer and watch seller operating during the 19th century. Like many provincial retailers, movements were typically supplied by English or Swiss makers and then signed for the retailer.
Named Irish fusee pocket watches are less common than English equivalents and are popular with collectors, particularly when signed to identifiable towns such as Londonderry.
