Antique Baume Genève Silver Pocket Watch – Matching Serials, C.B. Marked (c.1860s–80s)
A fine antique Baume Genève silver pocket watch, dating from the mid-to-late 19th century. This elegant timepiece is notable for its originality, with the case & movement carrying the same serial number (126440). Both the movement and case are marked with Baume Genève and the initials C.B., very likely referring to Charles Baume, a key member of the Baume family active in Geneva during this period.
The silver case is beautifully engine-turned with ornate engraving to the rear and carries the “FINE SILVER CB" mark. The silver dial features Roman numerals with decorative gilt accents, retaining a classic mid-19th century style. The watch is key wound and working, though sold as seen with no key included.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an early Baume Genève pocket watch with such clear provenance and originality, predating the firm’s later partnership that became Baume & Mercier.
Brief History of the Maker:
The Baume company was founded in Les Bois, Switzerland, in the 1830s by Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume. By the mid-19th century, the firm had established a strong reputation in Geneva and London, producing high-quality timepieces. Members of the Baume family, including Charles Baume, were instrumental in expanding the business during this period. In 1918, the company entered into partnership with Paul Mercier, forming the renowned brand Baume & Mercier, still celebrated today.
