Description
An original Royal Mint silver commemorative medal issued for the Investiture of Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) at Caernarfon Castle on 13th July 1911. Designed by the renowned sculptor and medallist Sir William Goscombe John, the medal features a finely executed portrait of the young Prince Edward wearing ceremonial robes and crown on the obverse, with a detailed depiction of Caernarfon Castle beneath the Prince of Wales feathers and Welsh dragon on the reverse. The medal is presented in its original Royal Mint fitted case with royal cypher to the lid. Sir William Goscombe John RA (1860–1952) was one of Britain's leading sculptors and medallists. He was commissioned to design the official medal for the 1911 Investiture of Edward as Prince of Wales and was also involved in designing elements of the investiture regalia.
