Antique Silver Waltham Pocket Watch – Bond St. Grade, 13 Jewels – Birmingham 1898 Case – Working

Description:
An attractive antique American Waltham Watch Co. silver cased pocket watch, dating to the late 19th century. This example features a Birmingham hallmark for 1898, with the case made by A.B. (Alfred Bedford) for Waltham. It houses a Waltham movement, serial number 7259047, identified as the Bond St. grade, produced circa 1896–1909. The movement is size 16s with 13 jewels.

The dial is signed A.W.W.Co. Waltham, Mass., with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. The case back is engine-turned with a vacant cartouche.

This stem-wound watch is in working order, though a service is recommended for ongoing accuracy.

Maker’s History:
The American Waltham Watch Company, founded in 1850 in Massachusetts, became one of the largest and most influential watchmakers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, pioneering mass production methods in precision horology. Alfred Bedford was Waltham’s representative in the UK, responsible for importing movements and casing them in British-made silver and gold cases to meet local market demand.
